About Me

Ruth Hunter: Ruth's painting process is led by intuition, avoiding concious renderings of a preconcieved idea, she responds to emotions of the moment as she is guided from within for color selection and the action of its application. Using oil and wax, Ruth's canvases are saturated with layers of translucient colors. Often, images of the human form emerge seemingly from between these layers characterized by architypal themes of longing, human connectedness, journeys of the soul, and transcendence. Scratching or pealing of the surface reveals hidden colors inspiring unexpected images or abstract forms. "Color carries with it a feeling-tone, visually, and effects the viewers mind in much the same way music does, audibly. As I paint, images shift in and out of the layers...unfolding their mysteries. The process is, for me, an ongoing inner journey on canvas." Inherent in Ruth's paintings is a personal yet universal expression of raw human emotion giving the viewer a window through which to visually engage their own inner journey.
